MY FIRM STORY (why I chose this path)
I began my law career over 10 years ago in litigation. I practiced criminal law as an Assistant State Attorney prosecutor for 6 years. Then, I transitioned into civil litigation as an Insurance Defense attorney for 4 years. Even though I was helping my clients, I never felt a sense of satisfaction and didn’t have an opportunity to connect with my clients. The dream was to go to Law School and make a difference in people’s lives.
Here's what I mean…
I always found myself managing a heavy caseload, I did not have a personal relationship with my clients, I applied the same resolution to every client regardless of the client’s needs, and I didn’t have the opportunity to assist my client the way I wanted too. Simply put, all I was doing is moving cases along.
So, I thought long and hard about a law career that would provide service to my community. Being married with 2 young children, I randomly thought about what would happen to my children if my husband and I were to pass away. I realized I had no plan in place. I didn’t even have a legal guardian named. How can I be a professional, a lawyer at that and not have a plan in place for my children. I thought about the mess and confusion I would leave behind. I decided to make a complete shift out of the way I was providing legal services before to now serve families and ensure they have a plan in place if something were to happen to them if they pass away.
Furthermore, generational wealth is a hot topic in society today. However, many people don’t know what it really means or how to maintain it. In other words, how do you pass down a legacy to your children, children’s children and so forth.
Estate Planning is the way to get your affairs in order in the event something happens to you and the establishment of Generational Wealth.
I went to law school to make a real difference in my clients’ lives. And when I decided on a practice area and how I wanted to serve clients, I decided that estate planning was the right way and was the way that I could make the biggest impact in the community for the families or for the small business owners in our community.
I opened The Family Inheritance Law Firm with the idea of bringing back the Personal Family Lawyer relationship - where initial planning is just the beginning of the relationship and we’re focused on putting in place a plan we know we will work for you and the people you love.
These are many things that make our firm unique. For one, we’re the best fit for people who don’t just want to leave their family a set of documents that may or may not work, but instead want to use the estate planning process to pass on a legacy and establish Generation Wealth.
